In 1861 Ernst Leberecht Fischer began manufacturing drums and tambourines; his later models received awards at expositions at Berlin and Dresden and at the World's fair in Paris. LEFIMA writes drum history.
After Albin and Curt Fischer the company was in charge of Karl-Heinz Aehnelt and his wife Käthe, neé Fischer. LEFIMA's intensive co-operation with renowned musicians and highly qualified specialists is the basis for an international reputation for quality "Made in Germany". Today's production program contains drums and mallet instruments for marching and brass bands, for orchestras, for musical therapy, and for early childhood music education in schools and kindergartens. The program has a special historic line (Percussio Antiqua) and first-class drums and timpani for symphonic orchestras. Hence, the percussionist is today able to choose for instance from over 120 (!) different drum models and 10 (!) timpani types.
The program includes instruments for the elementary sector for beginners as well as instruments for the professional player
and guarantees a thoroughly professional and individual equipment.
LEFIMA uses all the experience gained from making professional instruments to make better instruments for the entry level player. Today the company is led by Stefan Aehnelt, the fifth generation of his family. LEFIMA has been an international standard in percussion for over 130 years and enters the new Millenium with the gold medal of the "Bavarian State Award 2000" for "outstanding technical achievements" concerning the Concert Timpani.
